Drilling

Last night I saw the Black Lips at Brooklyn Bowl. First time at the venue, definitely won't be my last. Pretty awesome however the beer prices were not. $23 for a pitcher: I don't think so. So I passed on that thought.

I got there in time to see the second band "Box Elders" which totally gave me a Beach Boys/Weezer/Pop vibe. The bass player, well both guitarists had those double guitar things (excuse my ignorance on such a crazy instrument), totally insane, kinda looked like Jay (& silent Bob). The drummer was so damn awesome, stood up whilst drumming, used maracas to drum, crazy beats mate. Crazy. Anyways, bought their cassette, Kristie bought the vinyl so I could at least whack it on my ipod. The artwork is awesome.

Black Lips: let's just say we all know which member would have been the shittest. Ian: If you prefer to take drugs and act like an idiot than play awesome music in an awesome band, please go do so. Yes you are entertaining and your grills are somewhat amazing, but when you can't play your guitar properly and you foam at the mouth the whole show, it kinda disgusts me. And the best, well, let's just say Cole's moostache takes the prize.

Aside from that. Kick arse show. Man Pash, some old dude on rollerblades, pegging a bass at the brick wall, awesome trippy lights. I do however wish I was more inebriated and had more of a dance. But hey, I'm running on a few hours sleep each night for the last week from Texas/SXSW. Getting up and going to work early (in this country early=10am) and tomorrow I'm off to Toronto. You know, to try and get back in this country. Wish me luck!
